MELODY 4

The next weeks turned out to be so boring for Toke as Melody was no more around her, she struggled to get back to her former daily routine before she met Melody. Until she realized she needed a little bit of pleasure, she called her friend Aisha and told her that they should meet at their usual spot.
“You don’t look okay” said Aisha and Toke signed “what’s up?”
“It’s nothing really, I kind of miss Melody” Toke told her
“Melody of all people, you’re funny”
“Well, you wouldn’t understand” she sipped a little from her drink
“You know what I think, I think you don’t miss any Melody, you are just lonely, babe don’t you think you need a man? Come on now”
“Do you really want to bring that up again?”
“Why don’t you go out on a date, you need that kind of moment”
“Who says?…… even if I want to date, there’s no one available”
“Uche is”                       
“Who? Uche? Nah, that guy is such a juvenile”
“But he’s a good guy and he loves you”
“Well I don’t”
“That’s because you haven’t given him a chance, you have to give love a chance before you can actually feel it, trust me babes it’s the best feeling ever”
“Like I haven’t felt it before, you are just lucky that you have someone who can literally die for you”
“Yeah, I know that” Aisha laughed “but seriously Toke, just try Uche out, the guy is cute, has a good job, from a good home, most importantly he heads over heels for you, and what else would you possibly want in a man?”
“There’s more Aisha, although I agree that Uche loves me, but that’s not enough”
“That was why I suggested you give him a trial” She winked at Toke, so could look convincing.
While Toke was preparing to have a night rest, she recalled her conversation with Aisha, maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea if I consider dating Uche, She thought, and just then her phone rang, surprisingly it was Uche, they had a brief conversation in which Toke informed him that she won’t mind having that date he has been wanting to have, he was glad and a day and the location was fixed.

It was a beautiful evening, both Uche and Toke were seated in restaurant, Toke seemed to be having a good time, as they ate and drank, Uche talked until he realized at some point that Toke was already getting bored of his company, he asked if she wanted to leave and she said yes as it was also getting late, he paid the bills and accompanied her to her car

“I just hope you won’t mind having a second date with me?” he asked her has he held her hands in silence of the night
“Sure, well maybe, I actually had a nice time and I won’t mind having another with you” Toke replied him and that made him smile
“I’m glad you did, I will call you to know when the next time would be”
“Alright…….so good night” she said, making an attempt to unlock the door of her car
“Good night” He moved closer to her and hugged her.
When she has drove pass him, she picked her phone to dial Aisha’s number, Aisha picked the call with a scream
“Relax now” Toke cautioned her
“I’ve been expecting your call all evening, what’s up, did you guys go somewhere else?”
“No we didn’t, I just left him at the restaurant”
“How was it? the whole dinner stuff”
“Well, not bad, it wasn’t how I thought it will be, I’m thinking of giving him a trial”
“Are you sure?”
“Yep, absolutely, I’ll to him about it when I get home, and we’d know the next step to take”
“Girl I’m so happy”
“Whatever, I’ll talk to you later, gat to go”
Toke reminisced on the whole event of that day as she drove all the way home.

MELODY 3

Toke and Melody soon began to get used to each other, Toke made Melody comfortable with her, by engaging her with fun-filled activities like cooking and watching movies together, and that also made Melody not to miss her home too much, but unfortunately in less than a week, Toke got a call from the police station, she was told that Melody’s dad has been found, they agreed that her Dad will have to come to her house to get Melody.

“I have good news for you dear” Toke said to Melody, “the police officers have found your dad” She noticed that there was a change in Melody’s mood “Come on, don’t give me that look, you should be happy” Melody nodded still looking sad “Why are you not always happy whenever I ask or talk about your family? do they maltreat you?” Melody nodded negatively “So what’s wrong?” Melody nodded again “Well you know you can always tell me anything” Melody stood up immediately and went to get the pen and paper she uses to communicate with Toke, she wrote I’m happy that I’m going, just that I’ll miss you. Toke read it with a smile “Honey, you are going to meet your parents, that doesn’t mean we won’t see again, I’ll ask your dad permission to always see you, so she can come here whenever you like or I can come over to where you live, we will still be good friends trust me okay” Melody nodded and hugged her.

Toke came out with Melody when she heard the doorbell rang, immediately Melody saw her dad she ran to his opened arms and hugged him, he carried her and expressed his joy of meeting her again. He put her back on the ground and went to meet Toke where she stood.

“Thank you so much for looking out for her, the police officers told me everything you did, I appreciate it a lot, I mean if you weren’t there when you saw her who knows what would have happened” He said to her

“It’s fine, I’m glad I did what I did, Melody is a beautiful kid and a smart one too”

“Oh, you know her name, so you also know that she’s……….”

“She’s a special girl” She said and that made Melody smile “is it possible for her to come here once in a while or I can come over to see her”

“Sure you can, I’m sure she’d want that too”

“Alright” Toke hugged Melody once more and handed over a small bag that contained the few clothes she bought for her during her little stay with her and Sunkanmi left the house with Melody and the two police officers that accompanied him.

While Sunkanmi and Melody were having dinner that evening, they heard a knock on the door and Sunkanmi went to check who it was

“What do you want Rita” He firmly said

“Why don’t you let me come in first before you begin to ask me questions” she tried to force herself in

“I don’t want you in my house”

“Come on baby, don’t be like this” She began to seductively touch Sunkanmi “Why behaving like you don’t miss me, I know you do” she clung to him and began throwing kisses at him, his body began to react to the way she was touching him.

“Melody is in” He whispered

“Don’t worry, I don’t intend spoiling your evening with her, I’ll wait for you in the bedroom” She kissed him on the lips and walked away seductively. Melody was surprised when she saw her pass, she felt disgusted and stopped eating.

“Hey girl” Sunkanmi said when he got back to the dining table, he noticed the angry look on her face “Okay I know that look, I know you are angry because of what she did to you” Melody hurriedly went to get her pen and paper, she wrote I don’t like her, I don’t want her in this house anymore. Sunkanmi read what she wrote and held her hands “Sweetheart, Rita is a nice girl, you just have to take your time to know her, though she might be nonchalant at times, but she’s a great person and I like her very much” Melody angrily got herself out of his grip and ran away from his sight to her room, Sunkanmi watched her leave and signed, he took the plates to the kitchen and went up to meet Rita who was ready to give him a good time.

MELODY 2

Sunkanmi received a call from Rita asking him to meet her at the police station, she told him how to get there over the phone but didn’t give him a clue of what the problem was, she sounded so disturbed so he left what he was doing at that moment and went to the station.

“What’s up, Are you okay? Why did you have to tell me to come all the way here? Where’s Melody?” He asked her as soon as he saw her when he got to the station

“Please calm down, I need to tell you something, but you need to be calm, Melody is missing”

“I don’t get you, what do you mean by Melody is missing” He raised his voice at her and she began to shiver

“I went out to make my hair and I couldn’t leave Melody all alone in the house so I decided to take her with me, I don’t even know how it happened, I just noticed that she wasn’t where I told her to seat”

“You didn’t notice she wasn’t with you anymore, are you sure you okay”

“I’m sorry Sunkanmi, but that’s just the way things turned out to be, I’ve reported to the police and the promised they will find her, just calm down”

“How on earth do you want me to calm down, you allowed Melody to get missing and you are telling me to calm down, you are not going to find it funny if Melody is lost for real”

“Hey, come on, let’s be positive okay, after all, it’s not my fault, Melody never listens to instruction, I told her to seat and don’t move, but she didn’t listen, she made this happen to her”

Sunkanmi scornfully looked at her, he was really pissed, and He held her arms tightly as she groaned in pain “You just pray she is found, or else….or else….” He let go of her hands and walked into the police station while Rita nursed her arm and then followed him.

Two days passed and still Melody was yet to be found, this affected Sunkanmi.

He was so devastated that he refused to eat or get busy with his artistry works, he also refused to see anybody especially Rita, even though she was his girlfriend, he couldn’t bear to see her as she was the reason Melody was missing, he blamed himself for trusting Rita in keeping Melody safe, he frequently communicated with the officers, so he would be aware of the progress they’ve made so far and the officers kept assuring him that in a matter of time Melody will be found.

Meanwhile, Toke was showing much love to Melody, she made sure she was comfortable at all cost, Toke saw her to be a sweet little girl, only that she was dumb, Toke never considered her disability and loved her regardless, Melody was happy to be with her knowingly fully well that she will be going to meet her dad very soon.

Toke didn’t mind taking her to the exotic boutique she owned in town, she wanted her to be around her always to avoid anything that will cause further problems with the police officers. Toke was with Melody when her attendants came to inform her that she had a visitor, she told her to let the person into her office, she ended up displeased when she saw Uche walk into her office with her attendant, she asked Melody to go with the attendant so she can be alone with her uninvited guest who was holding a fancy bag that contained an item he bought for her

“What do you want Uche?” She asked him when they were eventually alone

“You were no longer picking my calls, and I needed to see you”

“What for? You don’t just show up here without telling me first”

“You weren’t picking my calls Toke”

“What do you want?”

“Toke, I wonder why you do avoid me, I really want you to have a date with me”

“Uche, I don’t have time for that”

“Come on, that’s a lie, it’s just dinner, that’s all I’m asking of you”

“Okay, I’ll call you to tell you when I want it to be”

“You always say that, and you never do”

“I promise, this time around I will call okay, just go, I’ll call you when I get home” Uche wasn’t convinced so he stood and stared at her “I promise I will call you”

“Alright, I’ll choose to believe you, I know you’re busy right now, I’ll be expecting your call” he moved closer to her and handed the fancy bag over to her “I got you this for you, I hope you’d like it”

“Thanks” she collected it from him

“Take care Toke, I hope to hear from you this evening” He said again and she nodded, he then turned around and took his leave.

Toke felt relieved at his exit, she checked what was in the bag and saw a very beautiful neck chain, which obviously must have cost a lot, she tried it on and liked how it looked on her. It was a beautiful gift that came from someone who wasn’t her favorite person.

 

MELODY

There comes a time in our lives, when we meet that one person that suddenly becomes our favorite person, and then everything that we considered to be the attribute we want in them becomes less important. Happiness should always be the ultimate goal not minding the opinions of others. Melody is a story that tells about how necessary it is to listen when the heart speaks and always trust your instinct.

 THE BEGINNING

“Okay, so I’m going to get a few things and I’ll be back” Aisha told Toke as she got down from the car

“Aisha wait, I beg you, don’t take too long in there” Toke uttered with a pleading tone

“yeah yeah I’ll try not to, I have a couple of things to pick at the mall, just chill I’ll be back before you know it” She walked away while Toke took her phone that has been ringing for few minutes, she contemplated on if she should picked the call or not as she had no interested in what the caller has to say. Eventually, on the third dial she picked the call.

“Hello”, She sounded displeased, the conversation continued “I’m fine Uche, I’ve told you countless time to stop calling me like this, I don’t like it, every time I check my phone when it rings, it’s always you, I’m really getting pissed off with you bugging my life, this has to stop okay” while she expressed her annoyance, she saw a little girl standing somewhere a little distant from where her car was parked, she noticed the little girl was crying “I’ll talk to you later” She said to Uche over the phone

Toke got down from the car and went to meet the little girl “Hey, what’s wrong with you? why are you crying?, where are your parents?, your mom or dad?” the girl kept mute “Okay, you know what, you are going to follow me to my car and we will try to find your parents okay?” The girl nodded positively, Toke held her hands and led her to her car and put her at the back seat and then went back to sit at her usual seat, she dialed Aisha’s number hoping that she will pick the call, thankfully she did “Aisha get some pies when coming out okay and hurry”

In the next few minutes Aisha showed up, “Don’t tell me I stayed long because I didn’t” She said

“Did you get the pies?”

“Calm down now, are you that hungry? They didn’t have pies so I got burger” She immediately noticed the little girl sitting at the back seat “Toke, what’s going on?”

“Okay, let me explain, while talking to Uche on the phone, I saw her standing and crying over there, I decided to bring her here”

“Are you okay? Really Toke, a lost child, what if someone that knows her, or that knows that she is missing sees her with you, how will you explain you didn’t kidnap her?”

“I was going to take her to the police station when you come back”

“Let us start going to the police station”

“We will do that, I want her to eat first” The little girl was given the burger which she ate with all seriousness

“You don’t even know if she’s diabolic” Aisha said as Toke started to drive

“She’s just a little girl Aisha”

“Has she said anything to you?”

“No she hasn’t, she’s shy I guess”

“Hi my name is Aisha, what’s yours?” Aisha asked her, the girl stopped eating and nodded her head “Why is she nodding?”

“Maybe she doesn’t want to tell you her name not after showing her you weren’t happy to see her”

“Or maybe it’s because she can’t talk, let’s try something” Aisha checked the locker in car for a paper and a pen and stretched it to the girl “If she can’t talk, she should be able to write” The pen and paper were given to the girl “Can you tell us what your name is on the paper”

“Aisha, she’s too young to understand what you are saying”

“She’s not” Aisha insisted that the girl should communicate with them via the pen and paper, she looked at them and collected the pen and paper from Aisha and wrote Hi, my name is Melody and I can’t talk

“I told you she’s dumb, I knew it”

“Don’t talk like that”

“Please let’s start going to the police station, the longer she stay around us the more risky it is” Aisha eagerly said and Toke concurred, she started the car and drove away.

It was difficult getting a police station that was close by, they asked people the saw around and were given a description to the nearest police station.

When they got to the police station, they narrated the situation to the officers present, unfortunately, the officers said the only thing they can do is to help search for her family, the girl was too young to give them the information they needed, Toke was told to be responsible for the girl’s wellbeing until her family is found. Toke delightfully agreed to the discomfort of Aisha who considered it a risky thing to do. Toke didn’t change her mind so she made all necessary arrangement with the police officers and she was allowed to take the little girl home.

Aisha was left with no choice than to be in support to the decision Toke made, they separated, Toke dropped her at her house while she drove home in company of Melody.
